INSECT CONTROL RECIPE
Nicotine Spray
A lighter-strength version of a tobacco spray, diluted further for routine use against aphids and other soft-bodied pests.
Prep: 10 min + 1 hour steep
Yields: about 1 quart
Use with caution
Ingredients
1/4 cup loose pipe tobacco (unflavored)
1 quart hot water
1 teaspoon mild liquid dish soap
Instructions
1
Steep the tobacco in hot water for about an hour, covered.
2
Strain out the tobacco leaves through cheesecloth.
3
Stir in the dish soap so the spray clings to leaves.
4
Spray affected ornamental plants, wearing gloves and avoiding open blooms.
Caution: Even diluted, this stays toxic to humans, pets, and beneficial insects — keep it off edible plants and wash hands thoroughly after handling.
