ANIMAL CONTROL RECIPE

Gophers

A castor-oil soil drench makes tunnels smell and taste unpleasant to gophers, encouraging them to relocate their burrow system elsewhere.

Gophers
Prep: 10 minutes
Yields: about 1 gallon
Organic-friendly

Ingredients

1/2 cup castor oil
2 tablespoons liquid dish soap
1 gallon water
Watering can

Instructions

1

Combine the castor oil and dish soap in a jar and shake vigorously.

2

Add the mixture to the gallon of water and mix well.

3

Pour the solution directly into active gopher tunnels and surrounding mounds.

4

Reapply every couple of weeks or after heavy rain until activity stops.

Tip: Look for fresh mounds of loose soil to find active tunnels — treating an abandoned tunnel won't do much good.
