ANIMAL CONTROL RECIPE

Animal Repellent

A hot-pepper-and-garlic spray covers the bases for most plant-nibbling visitors, from rabbits to raccoons, using scents and tastes they instinctively avoid.

Animalrepellent
Prep: 15 min + overnight steep
Yields: about 1 quart
Organic-friendly

Ingredients

1 whole bulb garlic, cloves separated and peeled
2 hot peppers (such as cayenne), chopped
1 quart water
1 teaspoon mild liquid dish soap

Instructions

1

Blend the garlic and hot peppers with a small amount of water until smooth.

2

Pour into a jar, add the remaining water, cover, and let steep overnight.

3

Strain out the solids through cheesecloth.

4

Stir in the dish soap so the spray clings to leaves.

5

Spray around the garden perimeter and on vulnerable plants, reapplying after rain.

Caution: Wear gloves when handling and avoid contact with eyes — hot pepper concentrate stays potent on skin for hours.
